After the last six trout seasons fishing out of Twin Bridges as head guide at the Stonefly Inn I plan on making the adjustments back on to the Yakima like riding a bike, same river, same fish, more experience.

The Yakima’s two months of stonefly’s will be a pleasant change from the size 20 bead head nymphs and three #7’s pogo rig’s we run on the Beaverhead. I will miss those veracious brown trout but we will do our best to make up for that with the dry fly cutthroats here on the Yakima.

I spent the better part of ten years guiding the Yakima River before moving out to the mother load of trout fisheries in SW Montana. In those early years I seen a lot of change come upon the Yakima River it went through a tough drought for 4 years, the larger fish had died out and fishing pressure was at a maximum for the water conditions. Since 2009 the water levels in the Yakima have been stellar with good winter flow along with a smoother draw down in September allowing better survival of the quality trout and insects in the system. A good flush in the spring now push the salmon smolt out in a timely manner, more naturally. Salmon retuning at higher levels mean more diversity in food available for bigger trout, all these factors are what made the Yakima a great river in the first place, and a plesant welcoming mat for my return. My wife of 25 years may not mind as well.

Daily dry fly action will be my goal as I return to the Yakima, not to say I won’t do what I have to just to catch some fish BUT the dry fly is what I want to fish, and when it’s on, the Yakima will out produce any river in the west.

A fishing day will include; 7-9 hours fishing and a riverside lunch. All gear can be supplied, flies included. Day rate @ $395 plus Wa state sales tax.

I am pleased to offer fully hosted lodging with your guided fly fishing trip on the Yakima. With breathtaking views of the river and valley floor, I will be your host and guide for your stay. Call for pricing.

Spey fishing and casting lessons available; (Switch or Spey rod) I will instruct you in everything from line selection to Skagit or Skandi casting and full control of the swung fly for winter or summer steelhead. Fly tying and line/leader building instruction can be included. 2 or 4 people 150 -200 per person include lodging available June – September 2012.

Thanks and enjoy your summer, Brazda.
