Washington State Steelhead Fly
Fishing
January 2007 Beginning Spey Rod Casting and Advanced Steelhead
Techniques
January is a great time to improve
or touch up on some of the finer points of swinging the fly.
With the prime of the wild season a few weeks away it makes for
great class time without spending the cost of a guided trip.
Brazdas fly fishing is offering two types of classes for the
month of January.
Both classes will accommodate up to four
anglers per day with a minimum of two per instructor/guide. Each
class is held on the water and will run approximately 6 hrs.
Cost is $125 per person and is available any day
of the month . I will be offering classes both on the Olympic
Peninsula and in the Puget Sound region, depending on river
conditions.
Beginners class - Spey casting:
Beginners can expect to learn the steps needed to begin a solid
foundation for quick and easy advancement of techniques. I will
cover double spey from both side and continue into shooting and
angling instruction upon improvement. I will touch upon the subject
of reading water and instruct upon various casting approaches
needed for conditions found wile steelheading. If you don not
own a spey rod I can supply one for a small cost.

Advanced / Intermediate class - fishing the two handed
rod:
The intermediate/advanced casters will learn proper
casting angle, drift speed, depth control, and head selection
fly combinations. I will also cover
what I call fishing the high side. The main emphasis will be
on learning to control
your cast and deliver the fly in a deep swimming action.
You will learn how to fish water usually not fished by swing
anglers. Requirements are only that you
own a spey rod with a line that loads properly and you have a
few fast sink tips and terminal gear. Feel free to call
me at (253) 307-3210 or e-mail any questions you may have concerning
gear.
Bring your camera you just may find success at the end of your
line!
