Brazda's Fly Fishing Newsletter for August 2014

Guided fly fishing for Steelhead and Salmon on the Columbia River tributaries

Its been a while since I’ve sent out a newsletter, so I will try and cover a couple of items here with this one.

New rods: Varsity Rod Co. signature rods by Jeff Brazda Varsity rod company

Most of you that have fished with me recently (last 3 years) know I have been working on a rod design with a local Washington OEM rod company. They are producing these to my recommendations for the fishing
we have here in the greater North West.

Interested? I can offer free casting demo’s (lessons) to you and you fishing buddies to try these out. Bring the rods you have and we can work with those too. When you fish with my service I will have them at your disposal for use during our fishing days. It is my intent to provide a quality product that is as enjoyable to cast as it is effective at fishing the waters of the NW.

Available now are 11’9” double hand rods in 5-9 weight and a 12’6” double hand rod in 6/7 weight, starting at $425.

Klickitat River Chinook SalmonThe Biggest Chinook run in our fishing lifetime is running up the Columbia this fall. (Year to date totals)

For this momentous occasion I have rented the Rivers Edge vacation rental from September 6th through November. I will be hosting Salmon and Steelhead trips on the Klickitat River on a Simple Lodging platform. Basically I will provide my usual guide services and included is river side lodging consisting of breakfast, lunch on the water while fishing and potluck style evening meals.

What does that mean you ask? It means for dinners, ”You bring it we cook it!” Many of you know I am a pretty good cook and love to BBQ, for this to work out all you as a guest needs to do is bring some meat; chicken, beef, elk, turkey whatever, we can even eat salmon that we catch. Us guides will all chip in the duties and we will have plenty of BBQ material ourselves to add in the mix. Last year many just brought Costco Lasagna or a couple steaks and that was perfect. Some will want to forgo the BBQ and head to Huntington’s Bar and grill in Klickitat, or order a Pizza, that’s fine too..

The lodging will have maid service, good wi/fi and a old school land line telephone (no cell service in the canyon here). We have three rooms with two beds each, one bath and an additional cabin if it’s open for rent. We can accommodate up to 6 guests.

Cost is $350 per person per day based on double occupancy..

When to go? September through mid October will be the beast for Chinook, after then they become a little less desirable but still catchable.

Mid October through November will be the primetime for the fall steelhead of the Klickitat river.

Early November to closing, the Coho run the Klickitat well on a regular season and this season is forecasted for a larger than average Coho run. The take a swung and jigged flash fly well and commonly caught right with the steelhead.

Klickitat River simple lodging and guided fly fishing: September 6 - November 30 @ $350 per person
Fully hosted options after october 10 for an additional $50 per person!

Methow River Steelhead

The Steelhead fishing should open in the first part of October judging from the huge numbers entering the Columbia, presently 15% over ten year average. The house I normally use has burned down with the Carlton complex fire just last week. We are still in operation but have not solidified a house for lodging, we may not be able to with over 300 holmes lost in the area, mostly up in the hills but a few along the river. I have some dates open and will not let the current events keep me off my favorite river and run of steelhead. We will run into the fall season as long as the fishing stays good usually till late November. Please call or Em for open dates and pricing. Thanks for subscribing Jeff
